Does a low TDS reading mean your Bali water is safe?

A number needs a question

A TDS reading is not a complete drinking-water assessment. Keep the measurement separate from a claim that water is safe, that a filter removes everything or that a property needs a particular system. EPA's general guidance discusses dissolved solids among aesthetic water considerations; that is not a Bali safety certificate.

Record what was actually measured

Ask the person taking the reading to record the instrument, displayed unit, sample point, date and relevant operating conditions. Keep the original laboratory report if one exists. Do not replace it with a screenshot of a meter display.

Questions for a demonstration

• What does this instrument measure or estimate?
• Which substances or organisms does this demonstration not identify?
• Are the before and after samples from the same source and comparable conditions?
• What independent evidence supports the product's specific claims?
• Which further analysis addresses my intended use?

Avoid comparisons that answer the wrong question

Comparing a dedicated treated outlet with another property's untreated tap does not isolate the effect of one product. Different supply, storage and sampling conditions can make the comparison misleading. Ask for a written testing plan rather than a dramatic demonstration.

Ask for an interpretable report

Tell the laboratory whether the question is drinking use, a taste change or equipment performance. Request the relevant parameters, sampling method, units and interpretation. Local criteria should be confirmed by the responsible professional; foreign reference values are not automatically Indonesian limits.
