Can you drink tap water in Bali?

The practical answer

Do not assume a tap at an unfamiliar property supplies drinking water. Ask the property manager how that specific outlet is supplied, treated and checked. Clear appearance and a pleasant taste cannot establish safety. Where the supply is uncertain, use unopened, factory-sealed drinking water while you seek appropriate advice. This follows general CDC travel guidance, not a test of your Bali property.

Ask about the actual drinking outlet

A villa may have several water systems. Identify the kitchen drinking tap, refrigerator feed, ice machine and any refill dispenser separately. Request the most recent report for the outlet you intend to use, including its sampling date. A report for the source before storage does not describe every downstream tap.

A five-question handover

• Which outlet is intended for drinking?
• Who maintains its treatment equipment?
• When was that equipment last serviced?
• Which sample point and date does the latest report cover?
• What should occupants use if treatment is unavailable?

What equipment does and does not tell you

An installed filter is a starting point for questions. Ask for the exact model, its documented reduction claims, installation record and maintenance instructions. A device name alone does not establish that your current water is safe.

Keep the decision property-specific

A map score, a neighbor’s result or a supplier brochure is not a result for your kitchen tap. If you arrange testing, tell the laboratory that the intended use is drinking and ask it to specify sampling and interpretation. Follow current local public-health guidance.
